Dudley wins 2004 NHRA King of the Track crown at The Strip;
Bryan King claims Super Pro finale on Pajama Party Night
Bill Dudley of Las Vegas is the new NHRA King of the Track at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The 61-year-old drag racing veteran defeated Ty Ishibashi of Las Vegas to claim that honor during The Strip¿s NHRA King of the Track Pajama Party, which began at 8 p.m. Saturday and concluded at 3 a.m. Sunday.
In Jerry¿s Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series competition, Bryan King of Henderson defeated Carl Cannavo of N. Las Vegas to claim the final-round victory in the Super Pro division. King, driving a 1988 Mustang, ran 125.41 mph/10.423 sec. to Cannavo¿s 166.99 mph/7.983 sec. effort.
Nick Ariotti of
Boulder City claimed Pro honors by defeating Scott Machael of
Las Vegas in the final round.
Kristin Kaminski of Henderson claimed her first-ever drag racing victory in the Street category when opponent John Irving of Boulder City fouled at the starting line.
Billy Fraker earned the Sport Compact trophy by defeating perennial favorite Bill Dudley in the final round.
Kahea Woods defeated fellow Las Vegan Leo Shaver for the Motorcycle title.
A total of $1,385 was raised for the Darrell Russell Memorial Fund during the Dash for Darrell competition. Racers donated a $20 entry fee to compete for prizes donated by Jeg¿s, Marie Callender¿s, Lamb Motorsports, car customizer Tom Daniel, Jerry Mock Motorsports and Rick Rosen Photography.
Jerry¿s Nugget Casino Reaction-Time Bonus Awards were won by Carl Cannavo (Super Pro), Sam Rendon (Street), Scott Machael (Pro), Leo Shaver (Motorcycle) and Sandra Darby (Sport Compact). The prize is awarded to the driver/rider who posts the best reaction time on a winning run in the first round of competition.
The next event at The Strip is the second annual Turbos By Garrett NHRA Sport Compact Nationals, July 16-17.
