AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge down to the wire in point battle
The battle for the DRO/NMM Pro Mod Cup, which goes to the driver who emerges from this weekend's NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge with the most points, is down to the wire.
As the final event on this year's NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge schedule unfolds, Fred Hahn, from
Hahn, with 1642 points, leads all drivers on the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge, an NHRA exhibition class, in the battle for the No. 1 spot and the DRO/NMM Pro Mod Cup. No. 2 Stott trails Hahn by only 15 points. Rounding out the top five is: 3.) Tim McAmis (1450 points), Thomas Patterson (1331) and Mike Ashley (1129).
Currently in positions six through 10 are: 6.) Rickie Smith (1024), 7.) Shannon Jenkins (1021), 8.) Quain Stott (816), 9.) Mike Castellana (814) and 10.) Von Smith (612).
With just eight spots available for Sunday's elimination rounds, the hardest part may be for a driver just to qualify. No Pro Mod driver has qualified for all nine events contested thus far on the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge schedule. Fail to qualify at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and your chance for winning the DRO/NMM Pro Mod Cup could suffer a severe blow.
Also, parity among the cars is another factor which must be considered. In the nine events run this year there have been seven different winners. The only drivers to win more than one event are Hahn and Mitch Stott. Each has two wins, while McAmis, Rickie Smith, Jenkins, Castellana and Von Smith each have one win.
Who will win the 2003 DRO/NMM Pro Mod Cup? Only time will tell who will step up on the stage when the Awards Ceremony for Pro Mod drivers takes place Sunday evening, October 26, at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in
