The Strip at LVMS converts Christmas Tree to LEDs following

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway converted its ¿Christmas Tree¿ starting system from incandescent bulbs to LEDs (light-emitting diodes) immediately following the third annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals Oct. 26.  The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) has utilized LEDs in its Christmas Tree at all 2003 POWERade Drag Racing Series events, beginning with the season-opener in Pomona, Calif.

¿We wanted to wait until the 2003 Jerry¿s Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series was completed before we made the change from bulbs to LED bulbs in our starting tree,¿ said Chris Blair, LVMS¿ senior director of drag racing operations.  ¿Following the completion of next week¿s ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, Jeff Foster of Compulink will rebuild our tree and starting system to insure accuracy in the programming of the LED system.¿

The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 Finals (Oct. 30-Nov. 2) will be the first event to be contested with the new LED system.  The new system will remain in place through the Las Vegas Bracket Nationals (Nov. 14-16), Super Chevy Show (Nov. 21-23) and the remaining Titan Auto Insurance Midnight Mayhem events (Nov. 7 and Dec. 5).
